Social and Humanistic Activities for Public Welfare

Besides business operations, Yang Ming makes an effort to promote the ideals of social and human welfare and of education by actively participating in activities of public interest. It has made the fulfillment of social responsibility an established goal.

Exhibition and the kimono exhibition. On the other hand, it has hauled back to Taiwan from Japan for exhibition an antique locomotive hitherto used by the Taiwan Sugar Company. Besides, Yang Ming has sponsored various cultural activities including the Hakka Cultural Festival, Taipei Lantern Festival, Container Art Festival, fund-raising event featuring the auction of the works of famous contemporary artists.

In 2003, Yang Ming held a large-scale International Art Carnival by inviting Bowfire, a world-known troupe, to Taiwan for performance. To increase people's knowledge and cultivate children's concern about the sea, Yang Ming has held, not once, children's drawing contests and opened its ships to college students majoring in sea-related subjects to provide them with an opportunity for corroborating their classroom learning. In addition, Yang Ming has established a marine art museum in Keelung and a marine science & technology hall in Kaohsiung to better people's understanding of the oceanic culture and the long history of oceanic science and technology. Yang Ming has never failed to offer its humanistic compassion and fulfill its social responsibility. Every year, its staff would contribute large amounts of donation to the care for impoverished people, the orphans, and the elders. When the devastating 9-21 earthquake hit central Taiwan, Yang Ming offered various types of containers and shipped prefabricated shelters and mobile toilets from Japan to the hard-hit area for use by the homeless people.

Its staff donated at least a day's amount of their salaries to help the victims. When other natural or man-made disasters occurred, such as murderous typhoons, the plane crashes of the Singapore Airlines at the CKS Airport and the China Airlines in the seas of Penghu, Yang Ming without hesitation contributed the required towing equipment and reefer containers. Meanwhile, it has contributed funds to, among others, the establishment of the Ren Ai learning facility for retarded children and the emergency medical foundation for far-flinging islands.
