This Foundation has been set up to promote national awareness
of our nation's unique international status centered amidst
both Asia and the Pacific, thus making Taiwan an ocean country
surrounded by a sea of "unlimited horizons." To realize
this culture of "facing the ocean and viewing the world
as our stage," the Yang Ming Cultural Foundation seeks
to promote marine cultural understanding, tourism, and both
domestic and overseas recreation.
According to related laws and regulations,
this
foundation is specifically created to:
Motivate
national awareness of oceanic culture and marine ecology.
Administer
related oceanic cultural activities such as exhibits, education,
research,
artifacts or crafts collections, promotions, sightseeing, leisure-time
 activities,
innovation or other such efforts.
Reinforce
and stimulate cultural and educational endeavors.
Inspire
and pursue the collection, categorization, and publication of
cultural and educational
materials.
Nourish
and conduct the management and implementation of other related
oceanic
culture activities or business.
Endeavor
in any charitable efforts for the public that conform to the
purposes and
principles of the Yang Ming Cultural Foundation.
In order to make a difference in our communities
and inspire maritime-related cultural and artistic activities,
the long-awaited inaugural board meeting for the Yang Ming Cultural
Foundation was held on 29 SEP 2004. We are very honored to have
nine very outstanding directors on this board as follows: R.B.
Chiou, Cliff Pai, T.P. Chu, Rita Chang, J.L. Mao, U.S. Liu,
M.S. Ko, S.J. Liu, and Wan-Chi Hsu. The latter five directors
were especially chosen due to their expertise in cultural and
art-related fields. Furthermore, Mr. R.B. Chiou was chosen by
vote as the chairperson of the board of directors, while Mr.
T.P. Chu was selected as the president of our foundation. Now
that our leadership in this foundation has been duly selected,
we are looking forward to the main goals of the Yang Ming Cultural
Foundation, which are primarily to seek to promote marine-related
cultural awareness, sponsor charitable public activities, and
to just reflect our sincere concern to better educate our society
for the conservation of our marine habitats.
